Rebecca Howard’s professional life changed drastically when COVID hit. She did consulting work for companies in many countries and spent a good deal of her time on flights and working in customers’ offices. When she was back in the UK, she spent a good chunk of her time working in the company’s offices. But she did work remotely some of the time so she was well positioned on that front when remote working became a necessity.
Two weeks ago, she started a new job working for one of her consulting clients. But don’t be fooled. It was no walk in the park landing that position. She did not rely on her contacts, although she suspects they were consulted, but rather applied like everyone else and went through the entire rigorous interviewing process.
She describes the differences between live and online interviewing, noting, despite what you might think, that there are some advantages to the online way. She also went through rigorous testing and finally landed the job.
She has been in the office exactly once, to pick up her technology. She also discusses the pros and cons of starting a job remotely.
