Morning Report 18 May 20: US sharemarkets rose on Friday despite rising US-China trade tensions

The Trump Administration moved to block global chip supplies to blacklisted telecoms equipment company Huawei Technologies. At the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was up by 60 points or 0.3%. The S&P500 index was higher by 0.4% and the Nasdaq index rose by 71 points or 0.8%. Over the week the Dow fell 2.7%, the S&P 500 fell by 2.3% and the Nasdaq fell 1.2%.
