WORLD WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS FOR JULY 18, 2025
- Cold air in the far eastern Russia New Lands early next week may result in some frost in sunseed and spring wheat production areas
- Southern China may be impacted by a tropical cyclone this weekend with heavy rain, local flooding and some strong wind speeds likely in Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan
- There is some potential for the storm to also impact northern Vietnam early next week
- East-central China will not get much rain through the coming week and some drying and rising crop stress is possible in pockets, but no widespread production threat is expected
- NOT MUCH CHANGE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WORLD
- Some needed rain will fall in Western Europe this weekend and early next week offering some relief to dryness in parts of France, the U.K., Germany, Belgium and Netherlands, although more rain will still be needed
- Dryness will remain in the lower Danube River Basin
- Not much rain from eastern Ukraine into Kazakhstan during the next two weeks which may lead to unirrigated summer crop stress, but winter crop harvesting will advance well
- Dry weather has been occurring and will continue for at least another week in western Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula
- Some drying is normal at this time of year and showers may return in the last days of July for parts of the region
- Central Thailand rainfall may continue lighter than usual as it has been recently and greater rain will soon be needed for rice, sugarcane and other crops
- North America weather has not changed much overnight
- Very warm to hot temperatures are likely in the central and southern Plains, Delta, lower Midwest and interior southeastern states during the period from this weekend through the end of next week
- Heat indices of 95 to 115 are likely with the central and southern Plains and Delta hottest stressing livestock and some crops
- A westward shift in the heat and dryness is likely in the last days of July heating up most of the far western United States and allowing some cooling and rainfall back into the lower Midwest and southeastern states
- Northern and eastern Midwest crop areas will be sufficiently moist to carry on normal crop development during the next two weeks
- Some net drying is likely in the Delta portions of Missouri and eastern Kansas
- Canada’s Prairies will be wettest in central and western Alberta and northwestern into south-central parts of Saskatchewan in the coming ten days while the northeastern part of the Prairies is drier biased
- Some rain will fall in southern Manitoba as well
- Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas heat and drying will expedite late wheat harvesting, but stress livestock and some unirrigated summer crops
- West Texas and the Texas Panhandle will get a few showers and thunderstorms briefly next week
- S. Pacific Northwest will continue warm and dry biased for the next two weeks
- Argentina rainfall will be restricted for a while
- Southern Brazil will trend wetter from the middle of next week into late month
- Safrinha crop harvesting in Brazil should advance well during the next ten days with little to no rain outside of Paraguay and Parana
- India rainfall will be abundant and frequent except in parts of Gujarat, central Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu where more limited rainfall is likely
- Australia rainfall will continue greatest in coastal areas for the next ten days
