Episode 114: Psalm 55

Today's meditation is on Psalm 55.

Listen to my prayer, O God; don’t hide your heart from me when I cry out to you. Hear me, Lord! Listen to me! For I groan and weep beneath my burden of woe. Come close and whisper your answer. I really need you.

My heart is in anguish within me. I'm turned inside out. I shake with fear, shuddering from head to toe.

Oh, for wings like a dove, to fly away and rest in peace and quiet! I would fly to the far-off deserts and stay there. I would run far away where no one could find me, escaping to a wilderness retreat. I'm desperate for a change from rage and stormy weather. I hurry off to hide in the high place, into my shelter, safe from the raging storm and tempest.

O Lord, confuse my enemies until they quarrel among themselves. Destroy them with their own violent strife and slander.

I will call upon the Lord to save me and I know he will. Every evening I will explain my need to him. Every morning I will move my soul toward him. Every waking hour I will worship only him and he will hear and respond to my cry. 

Though the tide of battle turns against me, by your power, I will be safe and secure. Peace will be my portion. My life is well and whole, secure in the middle of danger, even though thousands may be lined up against me. God himself, God from everlasting ages past, the God of unchanging faithfulness will put them in their place.

I give my burdens to the Lord. I leave my cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and his measureless grace strengthens me. He will not permit me to slip or fall. He'll never let me topple into ruin. My life's hope and trust is in God, and he will never fail to rescue me.
