The Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly has defended his decision to vote against a resolution to improve search and rescue efforts of migrants in the Mediterranean.
There was outrage in the European Parliament last Thursday after the motion was shot down by just two votes.
The Green Party MEP Grace O’Sullivan described the decision of the four Fine Gael MEPs to vote against the resolution as “shocking and disgraceful”.
However Sean Kelly says he and his colleagues voted against it because it would have done “terrible damage”
