Morning Report 29 Oct 21: US sharemarkets advanced on Thursday

The Nasdaq index hit an all-time high ahead of the release of Apple (+2.5%) and Amazon's (+1.6%) results. Ford shares soared 8.7% after lifting forecasts and resuming dividends. Shares of both Caterpillar (+4.1%) and Merck (+6.1%) lifted after posting higher profits. But eBay shares dropped 6.8% after reporting disappointing results. The Dow Jones index rose by 239 points or 0.7%. And the S&P 500 index gained 1% with the Nasdaq index up 212 points or 1.4% -both closing at record highs.
