US Close 7 Oct 16: US markets slightly lower - oil above US$50/bl

US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday, a day ahead of the key employment report. Twitter shares plunged 19.8% after news that Disney and Alphabet were not interested in taking over the company. Wal-Mart fell by 3.3% and was the biggest drag on the Dow and S&P 500. The world's largest retailer forecast flat earnings for next year. The Dow Jones index fell by almost 13 points or 0.1%. The S&P 500 index was higher by 0.1% while the Nasdaq fell 9 points or 0.2%.
