US Close 12 Dec 16: DOW Jones closing in on 20,000pt level. ASX200 at 4month highs

US sharemarkets rose again on Friday to fresh record highs. The gains were broad-based. The S&P Consumer staples sector rose 1.4%, supported by the 2.5% lift in Coca-Cola shares after the announcement of a new CEO. The S&P Healthcare sector gained 1.1%. The Dow Jones index closed up by 142 points or 0.7% to record highs. The S&P 500 index was up by 0.6% to record highs while the Nasdaq gained 27 points or 0.5%, also at record highs. For the week the Dow Jones and S&P500 both rose 3.1%, while the Nasdaq gained 3.6%.
