Cain's question—“Am I my brother’s keeper?”—still echoes today.

John Wesley, founder of Methodism, answered with a resounding yes—especially when confronting the horrors of slavery. He called slavery “the sum of all villainies,” recognizing that to ignore the suffering of others is to deny our shared humanity.

In this story, God hears the cry of Abel’s blood—just as God hears the cries of the oppressed across time. The call is clear: we are responsible for one another.

As Methodists, as Christians, as people of faith—we are our siblings’ keepers. We are called to stand against systems that kill, exploit, and discard.
