US Close 30 Aug 16: US higher on low volume as investor concerns over rates settles.

US sharemarkets rallied for the first  time in four sessions on Monday. The discussion of higher US interest rates supported rate sensitive sectors, in particular financial stocks. JP Morgan gained 1% and Well Fargo rose 2.5%, providing the biggest boost to the S&P 500. The S&P financial index rose by 1%. The upbeat consumer spending data also supported sentiment. The Dow Jones index rose by 108 points or 0.6%. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.5% and the Nasdaq lifted by 13 points or 0.3%.
