Market Close 8 Nov 16: Early gains fade as US voting gets underway

The US election-led rally continued for the second day on Tuesday, although early gains faded with the ASX 200 index edging higher by 0.1 per cent after posting its best gain in four months yesterday. 

The FBI backing off Secretary Clinton’s email probe for the second time has helped lift the market’s expectations of a Clinton victory, although buyers retreated as US voting was aset to get underway. Sluggish trade data in China had a negligible impact on the Australian market. Imports and exports fell more than expected in October.
