Tonight we continue with our series Matters Of The Heart. Pastor Brad teaches us that Honor Is The Key to Manifestation.
TEXT Mark 6:1-6 NKJV
Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him.
4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.
INTRO
Good evening, everyone!
I’m so very glad you are here with us. Once again, we were challenging this morning with the concept of diversity. Truly Jesus loves and cares for everyone.
Yet, tonight, I want to hit another heart area, and I truly believe in today’s society, this is a big one: A lack of manifestation of power in our churches and lives.
That’s why tonight, I’ve entitled this message “Honor: The Key To Manifestation”.
ILLUSTRATION
As I’ve been in church my whole life, I’ve been to tons of services, conferences, revivals, etc.
I’ve heard the best of the best speakers. I’ve heard people who no one knew their names.
There have been times when I've come out of a service that to me has just been intense. people have been saved, healed, baptized in the Spirit, and I was extremely spoken to by the Spirit of God.
Yet, I have been with people who have went with me and others that I know, and they say, “ I just don't know what you got out of that. I just didn't feel anything.”
Why is it that some people can be in a service and receive what they need from the Lord, yet others can leave the same way that they came?
Some are healed, others are not.
Some are saved, others are not.
The answer?
A lack of honor.
A lack of honor for the Word. A lack of honor for the church. A lack of honor for the minister. But ultimately, a lack of honor for the Lord Jesus.
TRANSITION
How many of us would agree that Jesus is the Son of God? To get down to it, He was God Himself. He was there at creation. He can do anything!
Yet, we find something odd in Scripture……
BACKGROUND
In our text tonight, we see Jesus going through his hometown. It’s the Sabbath day, so He began to teach in the synagogue. Think about this….
The Word of God taught the Word of God. Imagine how powerful that sermon was!
Yet, the audience began to reason within themselves.
Who is this guy?
We know him. We know his folks, etc.
They began to look at where He came from rather than who He was.
Note: Honor looks PAST the person and TO the position.
Yet, because of all this, Jesus became limited because of their dishonor towards Him.
It didn't say He didn’t do mighty works, it said He COULDN'T do any mighty works.
Wow!
He is so amused at their disbelief, the Bible says He marveled.
The word marveled means “ to be filled with wonder or astonishment”.
Jesus only marveled in Scripture twice! We’ll look at the other aspect momentarily .
Note: We ask ourselves WHY there are no miracles today in America when they are in other countries…..I believe part of it is a lack of HONOR.
We’ve become too familiar with Jesus and His church. We’ve lost what I call “the awe factor”. Church has become routine and common place to many. We feel too comfortable being critical, as they were towards Jesus.
What else can we see about honor?
APPLICATION
Luke 7:1-9 NKJV
1Now when He concluded all His sayings in the hearing of the people, He entered Capernaum. 2And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. 3So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. 4And when they came to Jesus, they begged Him earnestly, saying that the one for whom He should do this was deserving, 5“for he loves our nation, and has built us a synagogue.”6Then Jesus went with them. And when He was already not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to Him, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof. 7Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. 8For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”9When Jesus heard these things, He marveled at him, and turned around and said to the crowd that followed Him, “I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!”
Honor goes against the grain.
- Here in America, honor is lacking. Just ask any school teacher.
- A lack of honor is in almost every arena of life.
Honor must be taught.
- In the homes.
- In the schools.
- In the government.
- In the church.
Honor produces manifestation
- In the Spiritual realm, when we honor God, it produces results!
