Hours later, the Sayegh family receives a phone call from a kidnapper demanding a sizable ransom for Cary’s safe return, but the caller never makes contact with them again. A man named Jerry Burgess draws suspicion from the authorities when he keeps inserting himself into the investigation and he is eventually charged with Cary’s kidnapping in 1981. However, Burgess winds up being acquitted of the kidnapping charge at his trial and all attempts to find Cary are unsuccessful. On this week’s episode of “The Trail Went Cold”, we chronicle the frustrating story of an unsolved ransom kidnapping which would become one of the infamous cold cases in the history of Las Vegas.
