Ryan gave his basket balls away…
My response: Great job, way to be generous.
Today I am not talking about tithing (10% of your income) As a man of God I know you are doing that. A man of God refuses to be a thief and rob God, so thank you for tithing. What I am talking about today is generosity!
2 Corinthians 9:6-8. Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
**These verses are not about tithing…again Paul assumes as believers they are already tithing… as I know you are!
These verses are about a willingness to give to a need in the church.
WHAT A CONCEPT - GENEROSITY BEYOND TITHING!
We've identified 5 reasons people are motivated to give or be generous:
- 1 They see/feel a need… FEELINGS DON’T LAST
- 2 They believe in the vision… VISIONS CHANGE
- 3 They have a relationship… RELATIONSHIPS DON’T LAST AND CHANGE
- 4 They are taught how to do it… I honestly didn’t know any better. My parents tithed, they gave away things all the time, they gave sacrificially and it was our nature
- 5 They want to obey God’s Word… NOT JUST A BLANK OBEDIENCE, BUT AN OBEDIENCE OUT OF LOVE FOR GOD.
**REMEMBER THAT FIRST TIME YOU BOUGHT YOUR WIFE FLOWERS… YES, WOW, CAN’T WAIT.
****NOW COMPARE THAT TO THE LAST TIME YOU BOUGHT HER FLOWERS…
Generosity comes from an expression of love…
Hmmmm….. For God so loved the world…fill in the blank.
Money: It’s either a tool or an idol and nothing else!
*IF IT’S A TOOL YOU ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR WAYS TO USE IT FOR GOD.
*IF IT’S AN IDOL YOU ALWAYS HAVE EXCUSES AS TO WHY TO HANG ON TO IT!

The dead take to the grave, clutched in their hands, only what they have given away.

Think of some great things God has done in your life and then out of that motivation go be generous and watch how it makes you feel, watch what it does in your life.
