The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy says the IFA should step up its vigilance of the talks on the EU-US trade deal known as TTIP. The Midlands North-West MEP is openly critical of TTIP which he says will damage the Irish agricultural sector and particularly the beef industry. Speaking from the European Parliament, Mr Carthy referred to recent IFA concerns about an EU trade deal with the Mercosur group of South American countries. The IFA’s National Livestock Chairman Henry Burns recently said a Mercosur deal would damage Irish and EU agriculture industries. Matt Carthy says the IFA should be equally concerned about a TTIP deal.
