22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25)
4 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. (1 John 4:1-8)
Growing more like Jesus is a lifelong process. In the words of the Bible, it is one of the big words – sanctification, which we looked last month. If a Disciple of Jesus Christ is showing the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, then that Christian, that person, is becoming more like their Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, and therefore is being sanctified! We looked together at sanctification last month. Sometimes growing as a Christian is a difficult path, but nobody said that it would be easy! Certainly Jesus never said that it was! Another way to look at growing that it is like the changing of a caterpillar into a butterfly – it’s a process.
Today we are looking together at the Christian growing in Jesus Christ! What does this mean for us today in the 21st century? How can this process be seen in the life of the Christian? How does God help us to grow more like Jesus? What is the outworking of growing more like Jesus Christ? Listen or download the mp3 podcast to find out more regarding the Christian growing in Jesus, becoming more like Him who is their Lord and Master.
