In 2006, reporter Verna Gates was dismayed by the child prostitution cases she covered, so she founded a nonprofit called Fresh Air Family that was designed to bring families positive outdoor experiences. Today she talks with Carolyn Hutcheson, In Focus host, at Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson Park, operated by the Alabama Historical Commission, about the 10,000 member Fresh Air Family,, its 54 day camps, and its weekend hikes.
