The European Parliament will today vote on a resolution that calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the Irish citizen Ibrahim Halawa. He’s been held in an Egyptian prison since August 2013. The Egyptian authorities are claiming he took part in violent protests in a mosque in Cairo but human rights organisations such as Amnesty International say the claims are false. The Sinn Fein MEP, Lynn Boylan, who’s been instrumental in highlighting Ibrahim’s case, says the twenty year old could face the death penalty if he’s found guilty of the alleged crimes.
