The Covid pandemic has highlighted Europe’s over-dependence on other jurisdictions for vital medical supplies such as masks, PPEs, ventilators and critical medicines.

The European Commission this week proposed a new €9.4bn (nine point four billion euro) health programme called EU4Health. Its aim is to strengthen health security and prepare for future health crises such as another pandemic.
Deirdre Clune says it’s essential that the EU can produce its own vital medical supplies.
