Morning Update 14 Mar 18: Protectionism concerns offset the calm inflation read

US sharemarkets fell on Tuesday as investors reacted to President Trump's decision to fire his Secretary of State. But investors were comforted by the benign reading on inflation, indicating that the Federal Reserve can be measured with rate hikes. Qualcomm fell 5.0% after the White House blocked Broadcom's bid for the semiconductor maker.
