Duffy Daughtery was the football coach for the Michigan State Spartans from 1954 to 1972. At the end of one game, Daughtery sent in his kicker to win the game. As the kick sailed through the uprights, the kicker looked at the referee. Why? Because he had forgotten his contact lens and couldn't see! Though he couldn't see the goalposts, he'd practiced the kick so many times, it was routine. This story might work great in a message on spiritual disciplines, Bible reading, consistent community or parenting
Scriptures about habits? All of scripture is about how we live so in a sense its all about habits. But they do all start in the head first. Renew your mind… renew your habits.
you must replace bad habits with 1 of these 3 habits
1 Holy habits - What is the secret? Make them the first thing of the day and you will master them easier. Start small and build up. Make one a group holy habit at least twice a month for the super charger to kick in. And spend a week for one Holy Habit a year to impact others.
2. Healing habits - Make it a point to heal people and relationships. Influence people towards health in their lives, boundaries and relationships.
Choose your words wisely. Whats the matter with you… or What is troubling you?
Quit telling people to change (this is a form of rejection) Rather ask them how you can serve them in that area.
3. Healthy habits. These are maybe the hardest to do because they deal with our fleshly appetites. However if you can master these you can master just about anything.
When I train people I tell them to start with the habit of exercise first. Don’t worry about diet. Then when they start to see results the diet is a little easier.
Now one of the keys to healthy life habits is realizing your motive must be rock solid. My motive to stay in shape was always wanting my boys and my wife to be proud of me. Now its having my grandkids proud of me… My grandpa can still play football with me, skateboard with me etc…
Heres a key: Look at it this way… exercising, losing weight and eating right is not a good enough why. But if you have motives built into future relationships they can push you. Your kids, your wife, your grandkids etc…
You may know me.
I'm your constant companion.
I'm your greatest helper; I'm your heaviest burden
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half the tasks you do might as well be turned over to me. I'm able to do them quickly, and I'm able to do them the same every time,
if that's what you want.
I'm easily managed; all you've got to do is be firm with me.
Show me exactly how you want it done; after a few lessons I'll do it automatically.
I am the servant of all great men and women; of course,
I'm the servant of all the failures as well.
I've made all the winners who have ever lived.
And, I've made all the losers too.
But I work with all the precision of a marvelous computer
with the intelligence of a human being.
You may run me for profit, or you may run me to ruin;
it makes no difference to me.
Take me. Be easy with me, and I will destroy you.
Be firm with me, and I'll put the world at your feet.
Who am I?
I'm Habit!
