They are, of course, alluding to a message that Jesus says to his hearers in the Gospel, but they often fail to understand this passage in the unity of Scripture, particularly everything that Jesus says in the Gospel. For instance. in today's Gospel, Jesus calls His disciples to correct their brothers and sisters for their sins. This requires forming a prudential judgment only about their actions, about what they did, not about their hearts. They could never correct them if they could never judge their actions rightly.
