The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) is expected to withdraw its troops from the Horn of Africa nation by December 2024. They have been carrying out counter terrorism operations against al-Qaeda affiliate group, al-Shabaab, that has been active in Somalia for over a decade and still continues to target security forces and civilians.
