US Close 5 Feb 16: Miners and Energy stocks leading the charge higher.

* US sharemarkets were choppy on Thursday. Shares fell in the morning session, rebounded in early afternoon trade before ending the session modestly higher. Oil prices eased after earlier gains while investors were also looking to the release of key jobs data on Friday. Materials stocks rose in response to a weaker greenback with Freeport McMoRan up 17.9% and Alcoa up 10.1%. At the close of trade the Dow Jones was up by almost 80 points or 0.5% after tracking a 219 point trading range. The S&P 500 index was up 0.2% while the Nasdaq was higher by 5 points or 0.1%.
