HOW TO BE COMPLETE IN CHRIST: REFLECT HIM (Colossians 1:1-8)

Introduction

A. We Want Completeness In All We Do (Health, Education, Relationships)

B. We Should Want Completeness In Sharing Christ (Col. 1:28)

C. Let's Make A Few Observations About This Letter:

   1. We see the authority behind Paul's message (1:1)

   2. We see the audience of his message (1:2)--"Saints"; "Faithful brethren:

   3. We see the appeal of his message (1:1-3)--"Christ" (25 times in the letter)

D. To Be Complete In Christ, We Need To Reflect Him. How?

I. BY OUR FAITH IN HIM (1:4)

   A. Their Faith Was Perceptible (4)

   B. Their Faith Was Permanent (2:5)

   C. Their Faith Was Productive (2:7)

   D. Their Faith Was Powerful (2:12)

   E. What About Our Faith?

II. BY OUR LOVE (1:4)

   A. They Reflected Christ By Their Love For All Saints (1:4)

       1. John 13:34-35; 1 John 4:11-12

   B. They Reflected Christ By Their Love In The Spirit (1:8)--Gal. 5:22-25

III. BY OUR HOPE (1:5)

   A. Paul Mentions Hope 3 Times In This Letter, All In Chapter One

      1. The hope of heaven (4), the gospel (23), and glory (27)

   B. All These Hopes Had Already Been Given To Them

      1. The false teachers were trying to say they were incomplete

      2. But they'd lose their hope if they listened to them

Conclusion

A. 1 Cor. 13:13; 1 Thess. 1:3 + 5:8

B. Faith, Hope, And Love--They All Reflect Christ

    1. He's the basis of faith

    2. He's the perfect example of love

    3. He's the reason for our hope
