Morning Report 17 Mar 21: US sharemarkets were mixed on Tuesday

Investors eyed the upcoming policy decision from the US Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 index fell after setting an intraday record high earlier in the session. The Dow Jones index was dragged down by shares of Boeing (-3.9%) and American Express (-2.5%). Ford shares dropped 5.4% after announcing a US$2 billion convertible debt deal. But the tech-heavy Nasdaq index was supported by shares of Apple (+1.3%) and Alphabet (+1.4%). The Dow Jones index closed down by 127.5 points or 0.4%. The S&P 500 index was lower by 0.2%. But the Nasdaq index gained almost 12 points or 0.1%.
