US Close 19 May 17: Nice recovery in the US on solid economic commentary and lift in tech stocks.

US sharemarkets rebounded on Thursday as upbeat economic data supported investor sentiment. Bargain hunters moved in after the biggest sell-off in eight months in the prior session. The strongest gains were in the healthcare and financial sector. Cisco fell 7% after the quarterly revenue missed analyst expectations. The so-called "fear gauge" - the CBOE volatility index or Vix - fell by 6% after rising by 42% in the prior session. The Dow Jones rose by 56 points or 0.3%. The S&P 500 index rose by 0.4% while the Nasdaq rose by 44 points or 0.7%.
