When we were saved, our enslavement to sin was broken and we were set free, suddenly able to abstain from sin and empowered to walk in freedom. Our job now is to learn how to walk in this newfound freedom. The good news is that God has surrounded us "family" to help us on our journey and spur us onto good works.
