Professor Stephen Dinham: Teacher satisfaction, dissatisfaction, and resignation; and the ever changing role of school leaders.

Professor Stephen Dinham is so well known in the Australian educational landscape that he almost needs no introduction. For those that need a brief recap, his experience in education and school leadership research is simply mind-boggling. In 2007 he was appointed to the position of Research Director of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership at the Australian Council for Educational Research. He took up his present position at the University of Melbourne at the beginning of 2011. He is currently a member of the Victorian Minister for Education Expert Panel for Schools. 

In this episode we talked about: 

• His doctoral research was centered around “teacher satisfaction and dissatisfaction, resignation and persistence. 
• The link between leadership and teaching on student achievement
• His thoughts on  the changing role school  principals
• His work titled “Students are not hard-wired to learn in different ways – we need to stop using unproven, harmful methods” and why we need a different approach to teaching

Stephen’s work has had a huge impact on me and it was a privilege to sit in some of his classes during my Master's studies at the University of Melbourne.
