In John 3:1-17, Nicodemus just did not seem to understand what Jesus was telling him. Jesus was speaking of a spiritual realm and Nicodemus was stuck in the physical realm. Jesus issued an invitation to Nicodemus but there is no evidence as to how Nicodemus responded. We are drawn into this story. We are also invited to this new birth. Like Nicodemus we can get hung up with what Pastor Barbara referenced as our “lust for certainty.” Can we live with uncertainty, unresolved issues, holy mystery? Can we trust God as we move into the unknown? In Genesis 12:1-4a, Abram and Sarai had to trust God as they left all that they knew. It was only by taking the risk of trusting that they received the blessings God had in store for them.
