The European Parliament is today considering backing tough new targets for renewable energy.
In its efforts to tackle climate change, the European Union is looking to set a binding target of 32 per cent for renewables by 2030.
The new legislation being considered will also allow EU citizens generate their own energy and sell any excess back to national grids.
