It lets the LLM pull in external knowledge to answer questions and solve problems. But the current RAG systems can be a bit clumsy, especially when dealing with complex, interconnected knowledge. Imagine trying to build a house with LEGOs but all the bricks are scattered randomly in a giant bin. That's kind of what existing RAG systems are dealing with when it comes to knowledge.
Now, what if we could organize all that knowledge into a neat, structured format? That's where graphs come into play. Think of a graph as a map showing how different pieces of information are related. For example, a graph could show how a disease is related to its symptoms, its causes, and its treatments. This allows LLMs to “see” the bigger picture.
But here's the rub: LLMs are designed to work with text, not graphs. It's like trying to play a vinyl record on a CD player – they just don't speak the same language. So, researchers have been trying to build systems, called GraphRAG, that bridge this gap.
