How to introduce someone you’re courting to your colleagues and/or friends?

How to introduce your date to your colleagues and/or friends for the first time? What if you just run into your coworker or aunt while on a first or second outing with your new possibility? Is there a protocol?  How to introduce someone without labels and further unnecessary questions? When should you discuss the 'introduction protocol' with your 'possibility'? Are you both comfortable with "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" titles? Is there recovery after the wrong introduction?
