Murmur of Starlings
By Kellie Rowley and Zeph Daniel
A murmur of starlings passed
for three days overhead
their shadows a flicker
in the vertical sun
and all my futures I dread
Like the omen of a lovers overt gaze
suddenly I feel the need for warmth
before they pull away
Pining for a lost world
is not an option
exercising your free will here
might get you killed
And the starlings are squawking,
stealing everything in the woods
and the songbirds are quietly singing

There goes the neighborhood
There goes the neighborhood
There goes the neighborhood
There goes the neighborhood
There goes the neighborhood
Oh oh
A murmur of starlings passed
for three days overhead
