MEPs will decide today whether to back new rules on copyright in the digital single market.
Leading artists have backed the proposals in order to ensure payment is received for their work appearing online.
Critics argue it could impact on a range of internet use such as memes and background music in personal videos.
The issue will be put to a vote at the European Parliament in Strasbourg today.
