TD takes battle against fake news & online abuse to European Parliament – Naughton

The Fine Gael TD Hildegarde Naughton has met the European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society in a bid to secure EU wide regulations for social media.

Ms Naughton who is the chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on communications, climate action and the environment, met Commissioner Marija Gabriel in Strasbourg.

The Galway West and South Mayo TD says EU action is needed to protect democracies and citizens from the likes of fake news, disinformation and abuse of people’s online data.
