Levels of Intimacy – Vulnerability

What if being vulnerable wasn’t a bad thing? What if showing who we truly be wasn’t a terrible thing? What if being vulnerable wasn’t a sin but was instead a strength? Imagine being with a person you don’t enjoy talking to. They always seem like they aren’t listening or like you’re talking thru energetic walls. And when you finally seem to be getting vulnerable with them or lowering walls with them, they lash out and bite you like a venomous snake. That way you always feel as if you’re walking on eggshells around them. How exhausting can it be to be around this person? How draining can it be?

Now, think of a person you really enjoy talking to and being around. They constantly are listening and talking. They are barrier-less most, of not all, the time. Have you noticed that it becomes easier to talk with them when they are being completely open and barrier-less with you? The times you can look at them and know they trust you completely and would share the whole world with you. And when the two of you are really present with one another, it’s as if the world melts away. Each minute feels like seconds and every hour like mere moments. What if being vulnerable could bring you greater space and ease? What if being vulnerable wasn’t about being “weak” but instead about having the strength to be barrier-less and open?
