** Congregation Ahavat Olam’s musically uplifting weekly Shabbat service. **
We are excited to welcome Tutti and Ron for our musically uplifting Shabbat service. Rabbi Idan's sermon for this Shabbat, Parashat Ekev, is: “I Hear You: The Transformative Power of Listening”
Sermon excerpt: We know how a good reading, an inspiring sermon, or beautiful music can touch us deeply—into our very souls. However, when we don’t listen, don’t truly make an attempt to understand, the opposite occurs: hostility, disconnection, conflict, and hatred.
Unfortunately, we often lose patience and get angry, especially with those we love—whether it’s our spouse, children, or parents—simply because we don’t adequately listen, or feel they won’t listen to us.
I always tell my children that raising your voice in an argument doesn’t make you right; in fact, it often makes you come across as seeming to be more wrong. Yelling and fighting solve nothing. Conversations can solve much.
