Are Leaving Cert results the be all and end all?

We got a message from a mother who's daughter recently got her Leaving Cert results and didn't do as well as she needed. Because of this she didn't get the course she applied for and now thinks there's no way to get to her dream job. Are Leaving Cert results the be all and end all?
