Originally known as the Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, the Broadmoor Hospital opened its doors in 1863 housing some of the most notorious and violent criminals in England. The hospital was designed for both men and women who suffered from various mental conditions. The first patient in the hospital was a woman who was found guilty of infanticide in 1863.
