The European Parliament may have to meet in the days after Christmas to ratify any trade deal with the UK.
The President of the European Commission says talks are now entering into a decisive phase.
However, speaking to MEPs this morning, Ursula von der Leyen said there are still issues to resolve and agreement is far from certain.
Any deal will have to be passed by MEPs before December 31st.
