Market Close 1 June 20: Market climbs to start the new week and month

After a softer start, the ASX 200 has managed to close at the best levels of the day, lifting 63.5 points or 1.1% to 5,819 as investors remain more focussed on optimism around easing lockdown restrictions and a continued decline in new Covid cases. Better than expected Chinese manufacturing data also helped lift commodity prices and commodity stocks, particularly iron ore miners which were among the main driver of gains.
