Morning Report 9 Apr 21: US sharemarkets rose on Thursday

US Federal Reserve Chair Powell said the central bank has the tools to curb any inflation pressures. US treasury yields fell following softer-than-anticipated labour market data, helping to lift technology and other growth stocks. Shares of Amazon (+0.6%), Apple (+1.9%), Netflix (+1.4%) and Alphabet (+0.5%) were all higher.Tesla shares gained 1.9% on the Biden administration's US$174 billion proposal to boost electric vehicles. The Dow Jones index closed up by 57 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index gained 0.4% to a record closing high. And the Nasdaq index lifted 140 points or 1.0%.
