Christopher Hudson, a successful society writer, is murdered in his home while working at the typewriter in his study. A short while later, Inspector Thorne of Homicide and his assistant, Sergeant Muggins, are in the living room of the murdered Christopher Hudson's house. Thorne is saying to the murdered man's wife, Betsy, "I don't understand, Mrs. Hudson. You say it was almost ten minutes after you returned home that you first discovered your husband, Christopher's body". She says "Yes, Inspector Thorne. I thought he was working and I didn't want to disturb him". Thorne asks "Well then, why did you go into the room ten minutes later?" Betsy says "Lunch was ready. There it is on the table. I suppose I should have put the food away. Nothing seems to matter now". Thorne asks "Will you take Sergeant Muggins and me to the scene of the murder of Mrs. Hudson?" She says "Yes, if it will help you, Inspector". He asks her "Where were you before you returned home, Mrs. Hudson?" She says "Shopping, buying fall clothes. The packages are right there on the hall table, Inspector. This is Chris's study. He always worked here". Thorne says "I know this isn't easy for you, Mrs. Hudson". Muggins says "Wow, this room looks like a cyclone hit it chief". Thorne says "It sure does, Sergeant. Desk drawers turned upside down, books pulled out of the shelves". Muggins says "Chief, the murderer turned the room inside out, but he didn't go through the dead man's pockets. He must have found what he was looking for".
