St. Francis uttered the words to his followers on his deathbed, “Let us begin again for until now we have done nothing.” These words can inspire us or cause us to despair. For a culture that is based on accomplishments, ascendance and achieving we often like to think we have done all kinds of things for which we can be proud.
But Francis’ words have a deep thread of truth in them. For life to move forward, we have to begin again and again and again. As we move into this New Year we will pause and reflect on what it looks like for us to be (re)made into something new.
