Market Close 2 Jan 19: Market sinks 1.6% as Chinese data disappoints

The Australian sharemarket has stumbled into 2019, weighed down by weaker than expected Chinese manufacturing data released today. The ASX 200 fell 88 points or 1.6% to 5,557.
