Sermon - January 22, 2017 - Jesus Appears as the Christ, the Anointed One

The sermon for the Second Sunday after Epiphany, January 22, 2017. The sermon text is based on Matthew 3:13-17 Today's Focus: During the Epiphany season we want to get to know Jesus. This Sunday we get to know him by baptism, both his and ours. The baptism of Christ as the inauguration of his ministry is the them of the day. But as we remember Jesus' baptism we also focus on our own baptisms, by which we are connected to him and his saving work. This work was done on behalf of all people and has the Father's full approval and delight.
