Morning Report 22 Nov 21: Nasdaq hits record but European shares hit by Covid-19 fourth wave

US sharemarkets were mixed on Friday. Banking (down 1.6%), energy (down 3.9%), travel and airline stocks fell on fears that European countries may follow Austria and declare a full lockdown due to escalating Covid cases. Information technology (up 0.8%) led sectors gains. Shares in Apple rose 1.7% and Microsoft rose 0.5%. At the close of trade the Dow Jones index was down by 269 points or 0.8%. The S&P 500 index fell 0.1% from record highs. But the Nasdaq index rose by 64 points or 0.4% to record highs. Over the week the Dow fell 1.4%; the S&P 500 rose by 0.3%; and the Nasdaq rose 1.2%.
