We discuss the importance of learning, mentorship and the demands of a career in Medicine. Mr Jeelani shares some of the difficulties he has faced in his career including complex surgical cases, media attention and operating in foreign countries. We end by identifying the opportunities and satisfaction medicine provides are endless.

Mr Jeelani is a Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). He was ranked in The Time’s Magazine’s top 100 surgeons in the UK in 2011 and the top 100 paediatric specialists in the UK in 2012. He was Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at GOSH from 2012 until 2018.

He invented CranioXpand, a cranial spring distractor system in 2008, and later on established FaceValue. He founded Interface Health Solutions (IHS), co-founded Klay BioTech platform and in 2018, founded Gemini Untwined a charity dedicated to the research, support, and treatment of craniopagus twins worldwide, as well as other complex craniofacial and neurosurgical conditions.
