Market Close 30 Oct. 2019: ASX falls for the first time in a week

The local sharemarket has suffered its worst daily decline in nearly a month with the ASX 200 sliding 56 points or 0.83%to 6689.5. Losses were broad based with every sector in negative territory. Heavyweights were a drag with major miners and banks all in the red. Woolworths (WOW) fell 1.4% despite strong quarterly sales as the supermarket giant admitted to underpaying roughly 5,700 staff.
